Sunny chose ten participants for the survey and during the interactions with them, it was evident they were a bit surprised that Sunny wanted feedback from them. He included his wife and daughter in the list in addition to his direct reports, peers and his manager. The results reinforced what I gathered from my interactions and Sunny’s self-reporting. He was perceived to be a very talented person. He was also seen as a highly motivated person. He was highly task-oriented. At work he was seen as very aggressive and abrasive in his dealing with team members and peers.
While he agreed to certain things, he would finally go and do it his way. He would hardly attend any team celebrations like lunches and even if he did, he would hardly speak. 30 ARE YOU READY FOR THE CORNER OFFICE? On the people front, his direct reports did not see him as someone they could go to or confide in, in difficulties. He was seen as highly judgemental and close-minded in his opinions about people. He did not hesitate to ask people to leave if he had concluded that they were not good.
That’s when all of them as family, including John’s mother, would attend the morning mass in the church without fail. Another event they looked forward to was their annual holiday drive to any one location, as John loved cars and driving. Every day, after John returned home from work he would switch on the television and enjoy his old film songs. This was the hidden emotional side of John. John had a sister. His mother stayed with him. John did not talk much about his father even when gently prompted.
